Buddhism is basically about one thing: human suffering and discomfort, and how it is alleviated.
The Buddha said that all human suffering stems from desire. With that he meant that every time we want something to be different from what it actually is, we expose ourselves to suffering – we feel uncomfortable. From this simple truth the Three Fold Training developed, consisting of ethics, meditation and wisdom (also known as Buddhist philosophy, Buddha Dharma – or ‘as things are’). For an easy introduction to Buddhism, see the articles on Buddhist philosophy and ethics, and the article on Shakyamuni Buddha.
